
Akita Dog
The Akita is easily recognized by a large tail tightly curled over its back.
There is much folklore associated with the Akita which originated in Japan. It is believed that when a child is born, the family is gifted an Akita figurine as a sign of “health, happiness, and long life.” Akitas came to the United States in the 1030’s, one of the first belonging to Helen Keller. Today the Akita often serve as a guide dogs for the blind as well as a police and guard dogs. Alert and quick to respond the Akita makes a fine watch dog and loyal family pet.
